Blue System Copy
SAP system copy at the push of a button
Functionality:
Blue System Copy optimizes and automates SAP’s standard process
for system copies and enhances this process significantly with
additional functionality. Blue System Copy allows copying SAP
systems with an ABAP stack as well as SAP systems with a double
stack. User Exits and R/3 User Exits allow to create and integrate
customized automation steps, i.e. stopping and restarting the SAP
system or third-party components, start the restore from tape or
using customized preparation and post-processing jobs, as well as
sending email notifications or to start the BDLS transaction.
Preparation, cleanup and post-processing are large extents carried
out automatically (settings which need to be kept on the target
system are backed up prior to the copy job and automatically
restored afterwards, e. g. within ALE scenarios).
The intuitive, graphical user interface of Blue System Copy
extensively supports the automation of the copy process, ensures
error free operation and leads in combination with
Conigma™ QCOPY to a fully automated and significantly
accelerated process for SAP system copies. Additionally, before
running the system copy, there is a simulation capability,
testing whether all system resources necessary for the successful
execution of the copy are available.
Benefits:
Using Blue System Copy brings numerous benefits to a company resulting
in high cost savings through a high degree of automation. With Blue
System Copy, system copies may be setup during business hours and are
executed automatically without the need for an administrator being
present at predetermined times, e.g. overnight.
Due to automating all process steps copy jobs are exactly identical
throughout all processing cycles, none of the steps may be forgotten,
resulting in continuously high quality results of SAP System copies. By
significantly reducing the amount of time required for copy jobs, data
refresh for testing purposes can take place much more often without
significantly increasing personnel cost while improving the quality
assurance process. Ad-hoc copies can be scheduled on the fly and can
be executed either immediately or at any other predefined time.
Plausibility and resource checks are run while scheduling, just before
executing the copy job. This avoids errors already prior to the process
of the system copy. All activities are logged in a single file. This
serves as powerful documentation of the whole process, as well as the
main source of information for analyzing and fixing problems occurred.
Typical application scenarios:
1. System copy
In order to ensure that their SAP consultants are provided with up-to-date
test data, the IT department in many companies has to copy the SAP
production system back to the SAP quality assurance (QA) system several
times each year. However, after the productive system has been copied to
the QA system, there are still a lot of tasks necessary to ensure, that
parameters, tables, configurations, etc. specific for the QA system, are
recreated. Blue System Copy automates these tasks.
SAP system copies may derive directly from the SAP source system, from an
online- or offline backup and even the snapshot technology of different
storage providers is supported, eliminating the need for offline time to
execute a SAP system copy.
2. Further applications
There are many other cases, where Blue System Copy is able support an
efficient, automatic and error-free copy process, i.e. if copying the
development system to the QA system or to another development system, the
generation of test environments, etc.
